Movie: "American Teacher" from The Teacher Salary Project

| Description: |
Teachers have responsibility for the lives of children and the future of our nation, yet the pay is low, the hours are long, and the burn-out rate is high. Many teachers work a second job to make ends meet. How should we as a society value their contributions?

MLK Living Legacy Celebration
|
| Description: |
“Everybody can be great because everybody can serve.”
—Martin Luther King Jr.
What better way to honor Dr. King’s legacy than by serving the community. This year the annual celebration will include a “Day of Greatness,” modeled after King’s example. A Day of Greatness includes poster making in the SUB Hatch Ballroom, 9-11 a.m., and a march down Capitol Blvd., ending with a rally on the statehouse steps featuring Boise State students as the guest speakers.
When the rally concludes, several nonprofit organizations will be on hand to offer volunteering opportunities for afternoon participation. Depending on your schedule, you can participate the entire day, or maybe you only have time for the march. It doesn’t matter, because there’s enough going on all day to get involved. What does matter is that you get out and do something. Make a difference. Serve your community.

Slam Poet: Roger Bonair-Agard
|
| Description: |
Roger Bonair-Agard, a veteran of the spoken-word scene and a two-time National Poetry Slam Champion, will appear at Boise State during the 2012 MLK Living Legacy Celebration.
Roger moved to the United States from his native Trinidad and Tobago in 1987. Intending to begin university and eventually pursue law, Roger found himself instead exploring the seediest sides of New York City life. From Harlem to Brooklyn to Washington Heights, his poems explore the intersection between his twenty plus years as an immigrant in America and the Trinidad from which he came.
